Earlier, transport minister announced the pilot was found alive
The pilot of an ill-fated helicopter that crashed into a forest reserve area in Perak was found dead.
Perak police chief Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the body was found in the cockpit by members of the search and rescue team this morning.
The RMAF crew who reached the crash site at about 9.30am brought out the body and was later sent to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital Ipoh for a post-mortem.
The pilot was identified as Hong Kong citizen Tse Kin Richard Chan, 58. Family members have been informed, said Mohd Yusri.
There were confusions earlier when some portals reported that the pilot was found alive.
The reports quoted Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong who announced the discovery in a Facebook posting.
However, the police were quick to dispel the news and confirmed that the pilot was found dead.
“The wreckage of the Eurocopter aircraft, owned by a private company was handed over to the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) for further action,” he added.
Yesterday, it was reported that the helicopter lost contact with KLATCC at 12.16pm after taking off from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport at 11.37am.
CAAM, in a statement expressed its condolences to the victimâs family, adding that investigation will be carried out by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau of Ministry of Transport in accordance with Civil Aviation Regulations 2016. – New Malaysia Herald
