Tronoh Rep Found Guilty Of Raping His Indonesian Maid

The Ipoh High Court sentenced Paul Yong to 13 years in jail and two strokes of the cane

IPOH – The High Court here today (27 July) found Tronoh assemblyman Paul Yong Choo Kiong, 51, guilty of raping his former Indonesian maid three years ago.

Judge Abdul Wahab Mohamed said the defence team failed to raise reasonable doubt against the prosecution’s case and sentenced him to 13 years in prison and two strokes of the cane.

Paul, a former DAP man was ordered by the High Court on 06 Dec last year to enter his defence after the judge found that the prosecution had made out a prima facie case against him.

The Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) treasurer-general pleaded not guilty on 23 Aug 2019, to a charge of raping his 25-year-old Indonesian maid at his house in Meru Desa Park on 07 July 7 2019, between 8.15 pm and 9.15 pm.

He was tried under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and possible whipping, if convicted.

Paul was then the state housing, local government, public transport, non-Islamic affairs and new villages committee chairman.

The prosecution had called 23 witnesses including two protected witnesses, to testify during the trial which began on 05 April while the defence called three witnesses including the accused.

Paul was represented by counsels Rajpal Singh and Salim Bashir while deputy public prosecutors Azlina Rashdi, Liyana Zawani Mohd Radzi and Mohd Fitri Sadarudin appeared for the prosecution. – New Malaysia Herald
