Isham Jalil Sworn In As Umno Supreme Council Member

Isham’s appointment comes in the wake of Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman’s removal as a council member two days ago

Kuala Lumpur – Former Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) Information chief Isham Jalil has been appointed as Umno supreme council member.

His appointment was confirmed by another supreme council member Puad Zarkashi on his Facebook page today congratulating Isham and attaching a photograph of him taking an oath.

“Congratulations Isham Jalil,” Puad said.

Isham’s appointment comes in the wake of Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman’s removal as a council member two days ago.

On 03 June, Isham was terminated as the Selangor Info chief with immediate effect.

A letter, signed by Selangor BN secretary Mohamad Satim Diman, cited Clause 23 of the BN constitution that does not provide for the state chairman to appoint an information chief.

“Selangor BN would like to record the highest appreciation and gratitude for the contributions that you have given to Selangor BN during your tenure as information chief,” the letter said.

However, the former special officer to former Prime Minister Najib Razak said even without a post, he would help the coalition as much as he could and continue contributing as a regular member.

The 40-seat Umno Supreme Council comprises 25 elected and 15 appointed members.

There were 22 elected and 12 appointed members following Tajuddin’s removal, while the membership of 10 others was based on invitations.

Tajuddin made headlines for the wrong reasons several times in his political career and was removed in May last year as the non-executive chairman of Prasarana Malaysia Bhd after he joked during a press conference on a LRT crash.
