PUTRAJAYA – Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Azam Baki who has been embroiled in a share trading controversy is thankful to the Securities Commission (SC) which had cleared him of any wrongdoings over the issue.

The SC in a statement on Tuesday (18 Jan). said it had concluded its enquiry based on the evidence gathered but had not been able to establish if there was a breach of regulations under Section 25(4) Securities Industry (Central Depositories) Act 1991 (SICDA) has occurred.

“I have been informed by the SC that the inquiry into the matter has been concluded. As such, it has closed the inquiry file accordingly.

“With that, I will continue my responsibilities as the chief commissioner of the MACC to fight corruption in the country without fear or favour,” Azam said in a statement today.

The SC on 6 Jan, had announced it would look into the issue if there was a breach under its act.

Azam in a press conference earlier this month said that his share trading account had been used by his younger brother to purchase shares in 2015.

He denied any wrongdoing and said the stocks purchased had subsequently been transferred to his brother’s account. – New Malaysia Herald
