Lim Kit Siang is suggesting that former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will be ordered to enter his defence against the corruption charges pertaining to SRC International Sdn Bhd.
Just a day before the prosecution and defence make their oral submissions on the Najib-SRC Trial, the DAP permanent leader has claimed that a conspiracy had been hatched to dismantle Pakatan Harapan (PH) by kicking out his party and Parti Amanah Negara (PAN).
The Iskandar Puteri MP claimed that the conspiracy to topple the PH government was mainly to spare Najib from being called into defence against the seven charges of abuse of power, corruption and money-laundering involving the government-link company SRC International’s 42 million of funds.
Judiciary
Kit Siang seems to suggest that prosecution had made good arguments supported by strong tenable evidence in the Najib-SRC Trial that was concluded in late August, this year.
Or is he saying that Najib would walk out a free man from the SRC International case?
The Najib -SRC Trial at the Kuala Lumpur High Court saw 57 witnesses taking the stand since it began on April 3 this year and concluded after 58 days.
Judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali had fixed October 22 (Tuesday) and 23 (Wednesday) for oral submissions by the prosecution and defence.
Kit Siang’s statement on the conspiracy was either suggesting that Pekan MP Najib would be acquitted and discharged from all charges, or will be told to enter into defence.
Either way, his statement has mocked the doctrine of the independence of the judiciary that his DAP had advocated for so long, hinting that Malaysian judges would be influenced and dictated by current political needs and demands.
However, Kit Siang, as usual, did not explain how the expulsion of DAP and Amanah from PH would influence the judiciary’s decision on Najib.
Orchestrator
Kit Siang claimed that conspirators were desperate to trigger the collapse of the ruling coalition and could not wait to do so using a parliamentary vote of no-confidence.
He suggested that the current attempts to link DAP to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and communism were part of the conspiracy.
A parliamentary motion of no-confidence can be tabled against Prime Minister Tun Mahathir Mohamad, not against PH federal government.
Even if such motion was tabled, it was necessary that the PH government would collapse.
PH can always name someone else (one name will surely spring into everyone’s mind) to become the 8th Prime Minister (PM8).
Politicking
One thing is clear – PH is being besieged by serious internal strife.
Kit Siang’s statement indirectly points to Mahathir as the orchestrator behind this conspiracy.
If DAP and Amanah were to be ousted, Mahathir stands to be the biggest beneficiary from this political plot.
If speculations were true, PPBM, Azmin Ali’s faction of PKR, PAS and Barisan Nasional (BN), together with several parties from Sabah and Sarawak would form a new government with Mahathir being retained as PM7.
PKR president and Port Dickson MP Datuk Seri Anwar, who holds the world record of being the longest-serving PM-in-waiting, will be the biggest loser.
Power Tussle
A new government cannot be formed without BN in the equation.
If BN rejects the idea, Mahathir, 94, cannot form a new non-PH government.
He would then have no choice but to put up with DAP and Amanah.
That means Mahathir has to relinquish his premiership and hand it over to Anwar on May 2020, something that the nonagenarian leader would be dead against to do.
PH is heading into turbulent times.
Its coalition government collapse seems inevitable by next May.
Malaysians could be casting their ballot papers soon in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Perhaps those were the coded political messages Kit Siang was trying to tell to Malaysians.
