Najib-SRC Trial: Suboh Evasive In Cross Examination

SRC International Sdn Bhd director Datuk Suboh Yassin was evasive when he was cross examined today, Monday, July 8, 2019, about his telephone conversation with Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil during the last general election (GE14).

Testifying at Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s trial at Kuala Lumpur High Court, he said Nik Faisal had then told him to leave the country to Bangkok.

Suboh and his wife fled the country to the Thailand capital city on voting day before the 2018 election results were announced.

When cross examined on why the former chief executive officer (CEO) of SRC International, Nik Faisal wanted him to flee the country, Suboh said he could not remember.

When the defence then questioned on whether Suboh himself had enquired Nik Faisal on the reasons, he said: “I can’t remember if I had even asked about it to him (Nik Faisal)”.

When he was asked on whether his wife had sought the reasons for them to leave to Bangkok on balloting day, Suboh again replied: “I can’t remember.”

But, according to his witness statement recorded by by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Suboh had told investigators that Nik Faisal had called him during GE14 and told him to flee the country to evade investigations.

Najib currently faces seven corruption charges pertaining to SRC International funds.

The charges were 3 each for CBT under Section 409 of the Penal Code and money laundering under Section 4 of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities (AMLA) Act 2001, and 1 for abuse of power under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Act (MACC) 2009.
