Latheefa Koya’s appointment as the new Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner clearly indicates that a major crisis is brewing in Pakatan Harapan.
MIC Central Working Committee (CWC) member Datuk M. Nyanasegaran said that Latheefa’s appointment could be more political, perhaps to foil Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s march to finally capture his coveted Holy Grail – the country’s 8th Prime Minister.
According to Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, he had unilaterally made the decision to appoint Latheefa, a lawyer by profession and ex-PKR member, as MACC chief.
Latheefa is known to be with PKR’s deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali’s camp, and not with Anwar.
“Surely something is amiss and fishy here. Why should the prime minister appoint a politician from Azmin’s PKR camp to head the anti-corruption agency?
“Anwar has asked for a clarification from Mahathir, showing that a crisis is about to explode soon,” said Nyanasegaran, also the Penang MIC Chairman.
In process to appoint Latheefa, Mahathir had sidestepped parliamentary procedures, such as the post requiring the approval process of the Parliamentary Special Select Committee on Public Appointments.
Mahathir also did not consult the Cabinet nor Pakatan top brass.
“All these showed that Pakatan had sunk into a deep political leadership crisis.
“Mahathir may yet again deny Anwar the premiership,” said Nyanasegaran.
