In a press statement issued today Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker, MCA Vice President, asked Pakatan to uphold the laws and ethics of the by-election campaign in Cameron Highlands.

Pakatan representatives have been caught giving money to Orang Asli who were at the campaign and photographic evidence has been making rounds in social media.

DAP operations centre manager dismissed it as petrol allowance which is clearly prohibited by Electoral Committee. DAP veteran and adviser Lim Kit Siang then deflected the issue to Barisan Nasional by asking how much they provided. He also claimed the money was provided was for “petrol allowance”.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad denied any money was paid ignoring Lim Kit Siang’s statement.

Chiong Yoke Kong, Tanah Rata campaign manager, has also admitted that these Orang Asli reached the destination by bus. He also asked: “What is wrong with a Pakatan bus ferrying volunteers?”

Datuk Seri Ti also asked “if the Orang Asli were ferried by bus, why would they require petrol allowance ?”

“The Cameron Highlands by-election was initiated because of the Election Court’s ruling that the Barisan Nasional candidate had allegedly committed an act of vote-buying and bribery in the last general election. But now who is buying votes? It is very clear.

Based on the same moral high ground, we urge Pakatan Harapan to withdraw from contesting in the by-election and return a clean and undisputed by-election to Cameron Highlands.“ he added.

DAP has had nothing but trouble since the campaign started when M. Manogaran was caught offending the Orang Asli which he has refused to apologise. PKR Senator Bob Manola was also caught threatening Orang Asli leaders for their votes.
